Pinonymous
Privacy Policy
Effective June 12, 2026
Pinonymous ("we", "us") is an anonymous, location-based app where every post is a map pin that disappears one day after it's shared. We do not require an account, and we do not ask for your name, email, or phone number.
The short version
- No accounts, no names — you're anonymous.
- Posts and their media are deleted automatically about a day after posting.
- We don't run third-party advertising and we don't use third-party analytics/tracking SDKs.
Information we collect
- Content you create. Photos, videos, text overlays, captions, and comments you post. This content is shown publicly to other users on the map and feed.
- Location. When you create a post, we use your device's location to place the pin, and we use your location to show you nearby posts. A post's coordinates are stored with the post. Location is only accessed while you use the app.
- Check-ins. If you choose to check in, you share your approximate location as anonymous activity for a limited time you pick (15 minutes to 3 hours). Check-ins are shown to others only as an aggregated "how busy is this area" heatmap — never as your individual position or identity — and are deleted automatically when the time you chose ends (or sooner if you check out). Checking in is always optional.
- An anonymous device identifier. We generate a random identifier stored on your device to attribute your posts/comments, assign an anonymous handle, apply your blocks, and remember which posts you've seen. It is not linked to your real identity.
- Safety data. If you report or block content/users, we store that action so we can act on it and keep blocked users' content hidden from you.
- Limited technical data. Standard server logs (such as IP address) used for security, abuse prevention, and rate limiting.
How we use information
To operate the service, to keep the community safe (moderation, reports, blocks), to prevent abuse, and to comply with law.
Content moderation
To keep the app safe, images you upload are automatically screened for prohibited content (e.g. nudity, violence) using a third-party moderation service (OpenAI). We also act on user reports and remove violating content, typically within 24 hours.
How content is shared
Posts you create are visible to other users near that location and in the feed until they expire (about a day). Other people can see, like, comment on, and report your posts while they're live.
Service providers we use
- Cloud hosting and database (to run the service and store posts, handles, blocks, and reports).
- Media storage (to host your photos/videos, served over secure, expiring links).
- Google Maps for the map display (Google may process data per its own privacy policy).
- OpenAI for automated image moderation (uploaded images are sent for screening).
Data retention
Posts and their media are automatically deleted about a day after posting. Check-ins are deleted automatically when their chosen time ends (at most 3 hours). Your anonymous device identifier, handle, blocks, and report records are retained to keep the service and its safety features working.
Your choices
- Delete your own posts at any time (Settings → My posts).
- Block users and report content from the "…" menu on any post or comment.
- Control location access in your device settings (location is required to post a pin).
- Check in only when you want to, and end a check-in early at any time (Check out).
Children
Pinonymous is not directed to children. It is rated 17+ and is not intended for anyone under 13 (or the minimum age in your country).
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Media is stored privately and served via short-lived signed links.
